DefCon26 - Crypto & Privacy Village badge
This is a breakdown of the Crypto & Privacy Village Badge from DC26
(2018).
There are references
on Twitter, the Crypto & Privacy Village Website, and the badge itself
regarding the website "https://goldbug.cryptovillage.org/"
There is also a BBS
looking portion of the Goldbug CTF:
And here is their Twitter handle: @CryptoVillage

The front of the
badge is super cool looking; reminds me of an atom or nucleus:
xx
The light pattern
changes during startup and eventually settles on this pattern (no modifications
or code changes to the badge):
I did see other
badge holders at DefCon26 that had changed the LED light pattern on the front
to show all green, and another person had the badge LED slowly changing
colors. I didn't get any pictures of
their badges since I was told getting pictures of other attendees is a BIG no-no.
There Is a small
150mAH battery that is stuck to the back of the badge with double sided sticky
tape. Since there is a trend this year
of hiding clues under the battery or under tape, I decided to remove the
battery:
And to remove the
double sided tape. Unfortunately there
wasn't any info underneath the tape, just circuit board traces:
